About us
Nigerian-led, systems-focused, community-rooted
Premium Care Initiative (PCI) is an indigenous non-profit non-governmental organisation headquartered in FCT Abuja, with active field offices in Rivers, Delta and Kebbi States. We combine technical domain expertise, hyper-local community engagement frameworks, digital innovation and institutional capacity building to translate global and national development priorities into contextually responsive, community-owned solutions that deliver measurable long-term impact.

Portfolios
What we work on
Four portfolios define the scope of our work. Projects sit inside them; the portfolios outlast any single project.
Health Systems Strengthening
Supporting facilities, community structures and state agencies to deliver reliable, people-centred health services — from service-delivery support and data use to quality improvement and referral coordination.
- Facility and community service-delivery support
- Integrated service delivery for HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH)
- End-to-end referral pathways, continuity of care and equitable access for marginalized populations
- Health security systems strengthening across Nigeria’s energy corridor states: disease surveillance, laboratory system expansion, public health workforce development, emergency preparedness and response planning, risk communication, cross-sector coordination and health information system optimization
- Data quality, documentation and use for decision-making
- Coordination with State Ministries of Health and agencies
Livelihood Protection
Protecting the economic base of vulnerable households so that health gains are not reversed by income shocks, combining savings-led group models with social protection navigation and skills support.
- Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) training
- Group formation, governance and record-keeping
- Generating demand for national social safety net, livelihood support and economic empowerment programming
- Community navigators connecting marginalized groups to social protection and livelihood opportunities
- Strengthening local community systems for long-term, sustainable economic resilience
- Economic strengthening linked to health outcomes
Epidemic Control
Contributing to Nigeria's HIV epidemic control targets through demand creation, testing linkage, treatment support and community-led monitoring of service quality, with PCI serving as implementing partner for the PEPFAR-funded NICERIVERS Project.
- Implementing partner for the PEPFAR-funded NICERIVERS Project
- Secure, user-centric virtual platforms reaching adolescents, young people and priority/underserved populations with accurate, stigma-free HIV and reproductive health information
- Demand generation and confidential referral linkage for testing, treatment and prevention
- Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) of service delivery
Environmental Sustainability
Working with communities on environmental health and sustainability, recognising that a safe environment is a precondition for durable health and livelihood outcomes. Primary attention is on industrial pollution in the Niger Delta region and the impacts of climate change and unsustainable farming practices across northern Nigeria.
- Industrial pollution response and advocacy in the Niger Delta region

- Policy advocacy, grassroots community engagement and cross-sector partnerships

Capacity strengthening
Community organization capacity building
Through the ECEWS-SPEED Grant portfolio, PCI delivers targeted institutional and technical capacity building for Community-Based Organizations. This includes structured training and mentorship so CBOs can deliver high-quality HIV care, treatment, support and retention services, alongside standardized system-strengthening support, skill development for community case managers, and operational toolkits that are shared freely with the wider Nigerian health community.
Governance
Leadership and accountability
PCI is governed by a board and led by an executive management team.
